I have wanted to draw and paint since I was very young.  I remember looking at a photo reproduction of a painting in a drugstore window when I was about six, and feeling calm, warm, and secure, just looking at it.  I wondered what those people were doing, and wanted to jump into the painting and enter that wonderful place.

It takes awhile for an artist to learn to express himself in a unique way.  It is safer and more comfortable to paint or draw like a photograph of an object.  Observers say, "Oh, it looks so real."  But, I don't want my paintings to be photographs.  I want my paintings to express my feelings.  I can do this far better with paint than with words or photography.  Hopefully, it will come across to others on an emotional level, rather than a cognitive one.

Oh!  Yes, that painting I remember as a child of six, the painting I wanted to "jump" into was

"Where Do We Come From?  Where Are We Going?
by Paul Gauguin

Answering those questions is the rest of my story.
